In 2014, the American Astronomical Society's Solar Eclipse Task Force formed to help prepare the country for the 2017, 2023, and 2024 eclipses. At the AAS's summer meeting in 2024 in Madison, Wisconsin, the SETF hosted two days of wrap-up talks in three main sessions.
The morning of Monday, June 10, 2024 featured introductory video presentations and five inspiring and informative panels from the 33 Eclipse Mini-Grant recipients that the SETF administered for the National Science Foundation.
The afternoon of Monday, June 10, we presented a separate special session on Eclipse Citizen Science Projects. Projects describe were: Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project; GLOBE Eclipse; Eclipse Soundscapes;
LightSound Project; Capturing the Awe and Wonder of Solar Eclipses; SunSketcher; Eclipse Megamovie 2024; DEB Initiative; and
Citizen CATE 2024.
Tuesday, June 11 featured a Lessons Learned series of nine talks from some of the most active SETF members, summarizing the main lessons learned during the past decade from a variety of disciplines, including education, research, community management, traffic management, and safety.
In March 2024, the AAS released a 25-minute film showcasing the people behind the movement to document how the task force accomplished a decade of nationwide preparation, compiled from interviews with dozens of the volunteers who made the SETF happen.
